Here is my list of words for the RST Constant Consonants puzzle posed on Monday (I found 15):

Airiest, arrest, eeriest, erst, reseat, rest, risotto, roast, roost, roseate, rosette, roust, russet, rust, and rusty.

In addition, there’s resto (obscure for an antique, or the remainder), and Rasta (which is capitalized and doesn’t count).

Constant Consonants: RST

How many uncapitalized English words can you think of that use the consonants RST, in that order, and no others? You may insert vowels anywhere in your words, and you may repeat consonants, as long as you repeat them without any other letters in between. (For example, ARREST counts but RESIST does not). For full rules, see the link at the upper right.

I will post my answers on Wednesday. I expect to have a list of 15-20 words.

Smile: Window

I have been trying to get the right light for this picture for weeks. The photo here doesn’t have any shadows, but I’d like to get a better take when the window is in full sunlight; I think the “mouth” of the smile would show up better.

Answers: CC Initials

As promised, here is my list of 21 well-known people who have the initials C.C.:

Cab Calloway, Carlos Castaneda, Coco Chanel, Carol Channing, Charlie Chaplin, Cyd Charisse, Chevy Chase, Caesar Chavez, Chubby Checkers, Connie Chung, Cassius Clay (now Muhammad Ali), Chelsea Clinton, Claudette Colbert, Cris Collinsworth (who replaced John Madden on Sunday Night Football), Christopher Columbus, Calvin Coolidge, Courtney Cox, Cindy Crawford, Christopher Cross, Cameron Crowe, and Christopher Cuomo.

Also, here are three people who don’t have the initials C.C. but you might think they do: Casey Kasem, Carl Kasell (NPR newsman–I always thought it was Castle), and Sheryl Crow.

Cheers!

Initial Inclination: C.C.

To follow last week’s CC phrase challenge, this week’s puzzle involves CC initials.

How many well-known people can you think of whose initials are C.C.? In order to count, your names must be of real people, not fictional characters. Coincidentally, when I brought up the NYTimes homepage this morning, there’s an ad for a TV show about Coco Chanel. There, you now have one answer. How many more can you think of by Wednesday, when I’ll post my list? I expect to have 15 – 20.

Keep smiling!

I have to admit, this is a pretty lame smile. I’ve been waiting for the right weather to take a couple of pictures, so I’m going into my files for this one.

Tote_smileI hope you are having a fun weekend.

I’m sure there are plenty more two-word phrases out there that all begin with the letters C__  C__, even including the rule that the second letter also be the same in each word, as I opted to modify the normal rules. Since Monday, I’ve thought of 26 phrases. Here they are:

Cable car, calling card, camera case, can can, candid camera, candy cane, Cape Canaveral, carrot cake, cat call, cat carrier, cheddar cheese, chocolate chip, choke cherry, chump change, Circuit City, class clown, Coca Cola, cock’s comb, cold comfort, color code, Colorado College (and several more), common cold, computer code, corn cob, credit crisis (and credit crunch), and criss cross.

Phrase Phase: C.C.

When I first thought of today’s puzzle, I was thinking of cross country, the fall sport, as my inspiration for two-word phrases that begin with the letters C___  C___. But then, I started thinking of way too many possible answers. So, here is the new challenge:

How many common two-word phrases can you think of that begin with the letters C. C. and have the same first two letters? Cross country, therefore is not a valid answer, but credit crisis is.

I already have about 15 answers, and I expect to at least double that by Wednesday, when I’ll post my list.

Have a great week!
